From the 5th January 2026 Stirchley Medical Practice will start to use Total Triage.

Please help us to help you and free up our phone lines to help those vulnerable patients who need to speak to us urgently.

What is total triage?

Total triage is part of the modern General Practice model where every patient contacting the practice is first triaged before an appointment is arranged.  Patients will be asked to submit an eConsult which will be read by one of our experienced GPs who will decide the best course of action for each patient.  This system will allow us to manage demand, improve efficiency and ensure you are seen by the most appropriate person.

We are following the direction recommended by NHS England and this model of care is already working well at other surgeries within Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin.

Why Change?

  • Implementing these changes will enable us to better align our capacity with patient needs. By ensuring patients are seen by the most appropriate clinician at the right time for their specific condition, we can provide more targeted and effective care. Additionally, this approach will help us prioritize patients who require urgent attention and reduce the telephone queue.

How does it work?

  • You will make contact via an online form accessed via our website – Stirchley Medical Practice) or the NHS App. If you are unable to complete the form, a family member or friend can do it for you. If these are not possible you will be supported by our reception team who will complete it for you either over the telephone or face to face.
  • The eConsult form will ask you to describe your medical problem, the symptoms you are experiencing and how long you have had these symptoms, it will also ask you how you would like help. Once the form has been completed and successfully submitted it shall be read by one of our experienced GPs who will decide the best course of action for your condition.
  • More information on how to fill the form in can be found in the video below:

Local and NHS services

The surgery works in partnership with local and NHS service providers and groups.

111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s fast, easy and free. Call 111 and speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

In case of a life-threatening emergency, please dial 999.

The practice occasionally undertakes the teaching/training of healthcare professionals; we will always seek your permission for the trainee to participate/observe during your consultation.

Videotaping Consultations
This may be done for training purposes but only with your consent. Examinations are never recorded and the camera can be turned off at any time if requested.
